From: Gary McLoughlin Sent: Monday, June 11, 2001 1:19 PM To: Aristasoft Emps All (summary list) Subject: Above and Beyond the Call of Duty I've never broadcast a message to AristaSoft employees, but it is necessary in this case. On Friday afternoon, as I was trying to complete an important document, my laptop began smoking and hissing. I desperately pulled every wire, plug and card out. The battery was sizzling hot. Of course, I was greatly agitated because the hard drive contained my entire career at AristaSoft, and so I ran down the stairs and knocked on the door to I/T. (This is at perhaps 4:10 on Friday.) As I pace all over the room, Bill calmly removes the hard drive and we go to another lab. In minutes he verified that the disk seemed okay. At that point, John Reed came in, busy as usual. But he multi-tasked and got me a new machine, installed the hard drive, booted it up, updated the BIOS and video drivers... In short, save my (working) life. As someone who has occasionally been critical during the long struggle to build the infrastructure, I now want to express my appreciation for the exceptional response I got from Bill Montgomery and John Reed. My machine was smokin' at 4:00, and I was back up and running, at my desk, at 5:00. My sincere thanks, guys!
